When I try to install one of the programs for Windows, it's not working and gives me an error.  What do I do? First, make sure you go to Windows Update and download all available updates, especially Windows Installer, and all the updates related to the .Net framework.  For Windows programs, the setup should automatically download any required components if needed.  If the computer you intend to install it on does not have an internet connection, you'll need to download the setup program on a different computer and transfer it to the new computer.  If the intended computer is running XP or earlier Windows, you will also need to download and copy the .Net framework setup as well.  Also, make sure you're logged into Windows with the rights of an administrator.  If the installation still doesn't work, then you should take your computer to a qualified PC technician.

- If you're trying to install Karma and you get a message about a control failing to register, go to Window's control panel to the where you remove programs and remove the "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Runtimes", and then reinstall Karma and it should work.

Can I use someone else's credit card to order a product in my name?

Yes you may (provided you have their permission).  On the order screen, the name on the license key is separate from the name to be on the account (the billing information of the credit card holder).  When you're finished registering a product, you can log into your account and change the account name back to reflect your information, but the name on the license can't be changed so make sure you enter it correctly when ordering.

Can I activate my software without being connected to the internet?

Unfortunately no.  The internet connection is required to activate, but once you've activated the product, it no longer requires an internet connection.  Microsoft can probably be credited with popularizing the whole internet activation scheme and smaller companies like ours are begining to learn the value of such a mechanism against the growing problem of software piracy.  As an honest paying customer, you can be assured that there aren't thousands of users getting free use of a product that you had to pay for.
I'd like to transfer my license from one PC to another.  How can I accomplish this without worry that I'm breaking the license agreement? All of our Windows based products now have a "Remove License" feature on the activation screen within the program itself.  Once you remove a license from a machine, it will free it up to be activated on another.  Moving a license this way does not violate the license agreement.
My computer crashed, and when I try to reinstall and activate on a new machine, I'm informed that my license is already in use.  What do I do in this situation? If a computer that has completely died contained an activated copy of one of our products, you'll need to "reset" the license for that machine by logging into the customer menu here on the web site and going to the "License Maintenance" section.  On that screen, there are instructions for selecting the machine in question and resetting the license.  Users are granted 3 license resets per calendar year
I ran my progam today and a message came up that "There is a newer version available.  Would you like to install it?"  How do I know if this is a free upgrade or not? Anytime you receive that message, you should always answer "yes" and let the program download and install the latest version.  If you are ever informed in this manner, it will always be a free upgrade.  If we release a major upgrade (which is a whole number version increase such as a 3.x to 4.x version change), and we are charging for the upgrade, you won't receive the message from the program itself, but instead an email from us, at which time you can decide if you want to pay to upgrade to the new version.  You are never forced to pay for an upgrade and we will always keep a copy of older versions in our archive as a backup source.

I use one of your products that reads and manipulates large amounts of files, and this process can take a while.  What can I do to speed up this up?

The number one reason for slow processing of a large amount of files is your anti-virus software.  Modern anti-virus programs will analyze every file that your computer accesses, and the larger the files, the longer it takes.  MP3 and other audio files average around 5 megabytes each and this is what takes a long time to process a large amount of files.  Most anti-virus programs can be temporarily be turned off while you're processing your files.  Most anti-virus programs such as Norton or McAffee can be turned off via right-clicking their icon in the tool tray (next to the clock in the lower right of your screen).  Doing so can increase the speed of the processing by 10 times or more.

Another tip is to keep your hard drive(s) defragmented.  A drive that is significantly fragmented will slow down the processing of files since the drive head has to travel many more times to read files or directories.  To defrag your drive, click the start menu, all programs, accessories, system tools, then "Disk Defragmenter".

Under Windows Vista®, I am using an external drive and files aren't able to be copied, changed or deleted.  How do I resolve this? Windows Vista® has tightened security and you will manually need to tell Windows that the drive can be accessible by any program.  Click here for information on how to accomplish this.
File Synchronizer After synchronizing folders, the program tells me that its finished synchronizing and that the folders are in synch, yet when I analyze again, it acts like the files were never copied.  What causes this? File Synchronizer is set to skip over any file it can't copy.  This prevents the user from being completely annnoyed by the never ending error messages.  There are so many possible reasons a file can't be copied that it simply doesn't make sense to inform the user every time since that would only lead to us being bombarded with all the questions that begin with the word "Why?".  If you're running Windows Vista and working with an external drive, Click here for information on working with external drives under Vista®.  Other possible reasons include "read-only" files, system files (which shouldn't be copied), other file security issues, and much more.  Basically, if you are having this problem, the reason, and the answer, does indeed lie on your computer and its not a bug in the program.  Here are some tips to prevent this.  Make sure you aren't attempting to copy any system files.  Make sure none of the folders being analyzed contain any read-only files.  Make sure the program has sufficient security to write and overwrite files.  If all these criteria are set, there shouldn't be a problem in the future.
Karma During installation, I get a message about a control that "failed to register".  How do I resolve this? Go to Window's control panel where you remove programs and remove the "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Runtime", then reinstall Karma.
